How to play Michael Myers

The killer side works nothing like the civilian side: no deck to build, three abilities gated behind account level, and one ability whose whole point is ignoring the rules the others follow.

Your options depend on your level, not your prep

Michael starts with two always-on traits — Shape Jump and Killer Sense — and a choice of five starting weapons. The three special abilities arrive with player level rather than being selected before a match.

This matters when reading guides. A guide written by someone with all three abilities unlocked describes a character you may not have yet, and nothing on screen tells you which assumption it is making. Check your own unlock state first.

Reality Tear is defined by what it ignores

Detection Pulse marks victims and occupied structures in a large radius. Blackout disables anything powered in a local area. Both are straightforward.

Reality Tear is the one worth understanding properly, because it is described by its exceptions rather than by an effect: it forces Michael into or out of Shape Jump regardless of the circumstances, including while downed, while lit, and while being watched. Those are the three conditions that normally constrain Shape Jump, and Reality Tear ignores all of them in both directions.

That makes it two tools at once — an escape from a commit that went wrong, and a way to appear somewhere a civilian has already cleared. Reading it as a mobility button undersells the second half.

The story mode is the tutorial the multiplayer does not have

The prologue teaches grabs, executions, environmental kills and stealth routing in six challenges against orderlies, and the later chapters layer Stalk tiers, Bloodthirst and improvised weapons on top. If the multiplayer side feels opaque, the single-player mode is the only structured teaching the game offers.

It also has its own exclusive items and collectibles, confirmed by the developers, which do not appear in multiplayer at all.

Common questions

How do I unlock Michael's abilities?
Through player level. Detection Pulse, Blackout and Reality Tear are all progression unlocks rather than pre-match choices.
How do I get to play as Michael in multiplayer?
Matchmaking assigns the role. Community understanding is that tokens earned from matches feed into your odds, but no official post documents the mechanism.
What does Killer Sense do?
It is listed as one of Michael's two always-on traits alongside Shape Jump, and no official source describes its effect in detail. This site does not invent one.
